A typical Jewish housewife living near Jerusalem in approximately 40 C.E. gives the audience a tour of her home and takes them along as she joins the other women of her village for an early morning trek to the town well.

In the process, she describes objects observed along the way, such as the olive press and the many crosses used for daily crucifixions. At the well, she delineates the tasks accomplished there besides filling water jugs, including watering the household animals and doing the laundry.

The audience is then edified by the Woman at the Well's own telling of the story of John 4.
